2020.09.26 01:22 ManonFire63 What is a Seer?

Given The Bible, and we are looking to apply and wield The Bible through The Spirit of God to its fullest, what is a Seer? What do I mean by applying and wielding The Bible? Someone doesn't have a doctrine or ideology or false belief or perception they are working to fit the Bible into, they are "doing" and meek before God seeking understanding, and making associations that work. Doing this, and seeking to answer this question, may be uncomfortable. It may hurt. The Truth hurts. Knowledge brings sorrow. Ignorance is bliss?
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the LORD. Live as children of light (Ephesians 5:8)
Given someone was a Seer, they may be able to see what has been happening in the darkness. He may have some knowledge about what happens behind closed doors. He may have been aware of Satan. He may have been engaging in Spiritual Warfare. He may have been aware of many uncomfortable things that some people would rather have had hidden. God is scary. Being aware of God may bring a fear of God, and some people may have been working against God, and working to hide away God. To more clearly understand what the spiritual is, how it works, and what was going on behind closed doors, someone may end up hated for a time. Christians are to bring people into the truth gently. At times, like an Apocalypse or an opening of the eyes, it may come suddenly in the right context, by the right person, as shepherded by God.
Song: "Dangerous."

The days of punishment are coming, the days of reckoning are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool, the inspired person a maniac. (Hosea 9:7)
Why?
Given someone was fulfilling or appeared to fit into the profile given in Hosea 9:7, he may have been a seer, with God's Fatherly love. He may have been given vision into what happens in The Darkness, and was aware of sins and wrong doings. (Not specifically claiming Hosea 9:7, but working towards understanding.)
Illusions and False Perceptions
One way of seeking understanding of what a Seer is may be working to understand some of the barriers that have kept a regular Christians from being one. Have you have heard someone say "Masturbation will make you go blind?" Spiritual blindness or blindness to God. Young man around age 12-13 was out playing with his friends, and one of his buddies had a playboy, and he starts lusting. He starts looking and thinking about women wrong. His friends have stories about exploits with the "Girls next door" in sin?? That was perceived as cool where someone receives attention and accolades from his friends? That is playing on the ego. Someone may have ended up a "self-centered seeker of pleasure." He became a blind man. How was a man blind? God is love. God's love is fatherly. Someone looking at a woman in lust, wanting to use her outside of marriage, he was blind to God's Fatherly love.
After reading that, a man who went to public school may need to sit back and reflect. Has he been in competition with other men in terms of dating or relationships? Even if he was married, and he had been in a competition, he may have had a wondering eye. That wondering eye may have had to do with false perceptions and his ego. A lot of that may have been in his subconscious. He didn't think about it a lot, but various perceptions and his ego compelled him forwards, and he was in sin. Moving forward, he may need to drop his ego, not care, be happy with what he has, and seek God's will and plan.
Looking at this from a different angle, man meets pretty girl. He likes the idea of her. He creates some sort of image in his head of who he would like her to be. He was not interested in her, who she was, what she had done. He was interested in the fantasy image of her. He may have been a blind man who had illusions. These illusions gave him a false perspective. Given she tried to tell him certain things about who she was, and her past, or give him hints about it, it was in one ear or out the other or just didn't compute?
The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true." (John 4:18)
No false beliefs. No illusions. Jesus looked at someone, and conversed. Jesus was intuitive and perceived through his Spirit.
Song: I like the Idea of You.
Someone who was experiencing God, being taught by God's Holy Spirit, who saw into the dark, may have seen a lot of ugly hard to deal with things. Was someone's mom or grandma in sin, doing the wrong things? He may have become aware of that through the Spirit of God. Did someone's parents lie to them a lot? They may have become aware of the Truth. Having Truth, he may have ended up in conflict with his family? Given a lot of people suddenly had vision into the dark, as Shepherded by The Lord Jesus Christ, there may be a fulfillment of Matthew 10:34-37?
An understanding of what a Seer is, may bring a lot of understanding to The Bible that someone didn't have previously.
How may someone potentially develop this through the Spirit of God? I don't 100% know. I have not walked anyone else through it in person. I have mostly been in an online ministry offering hard to deal with truths in ways people choose. That is, they chose to read it. They didn't have to. Given I was to highlight what I have seen or been shown as important towards growing more in Faith:
They start with a good foundation.

2020.09.25 23:50 coy-coyote [HOLIER THAN THOU] A Camel And A Needle

Metaplot: Holier Than Thou is a series of runs exploring the myth of christian theocracy amidst a commoditized religious experience of the 2080's. Runners will meet various factions and individuals working to promulgate the myths of a just christian-judeo religious movement.
Contact - 'Kimberly Cagliari' - 3/1 - Rosicrucian Zealot
Female / Human / 30's / Celibate / Preferred Payment: Shadowrunner Job
'Kimmy' Cagliari has taken a vow not unlike a Jesuit priest; she will commit any sin, tell any lie, and take any life when so doing will serve the greater glory of God. This appears, to most, to simply be ridding the world of wealthy individuals, though her machinations and support network of magical contacts seem to allude to a deeper connection to other organizations, and is known to consort with the Order of St. Sylvester and other religious entities in her personal crusade. Known for getting close to her subjects, Cagliari is an expert infiltrator and PsyOps manipulator, and rumored to be a powerful mystic adept in her own right. Gear Contact: Talismonger Power: Side Business [Armor and Clothing]
Background
This is the introductory run to the metaplot series, testing runners ability to access the preliminary outlay of a luxury property with minimal security staffing and interventions. Runners faced difficulties in scheduling, keeping out of exposure, and looking for avenues for insertion of the objects they had received from their employers.
Meet
Runners met in the 'Our Lady of the Snows' Catholic monastery, in northern Snohomish. 'Sylv' [Kitten] had their anthrodrone LOTO'd by an aggressive technomancer located somewhere in the church, who then proceeded to manipulate the drone's reboot procedures while the drone was locked out of access. Sylv opted to wipe the drone's memory and isolate the malicious code on a datachip with the assistance of Weasel, unfortunately isolating the prior history of the drone's memory up to that point as well inside the bombed, encrypted rootkit upgrades bootstrapped to the drone's pilot. No other players encountered difficulties, opting to leave explosive weaponry and forbidden and restricted equipment in their vehicles.
Run
Players were given a mission to place up to 6 icons in the path of Ms. O'Leary's daily routine. Players did not opt to assense or psychometrize the statues before hand, and missed the 'easy deadline' by a day from mis-ordering placement of relics.
Players conducted reconnaissance and surveillance in all spectrums, assessing security threats of active magical detection spells being cast at intervals; on-site live patrol and security response; concealed host security measures inside the data host; bound spirit assistance; warded security rooms; extra concealed sensor tags in trees and natural camouflage.
Weasel was nearly killed by a data bomb exploding during recovery of the subject's itinerary from their commlink. Firstaid assistance was rendered by Sylv. Orca infiltrated the property twice, sneaking past sensor buoys and first tampering a generator, then climbing up 4 stories to the master bedroom's window to leave an object on the windowsill.
Raptor opted to assist by leaving a relic in a happenstance manner outside the doors of the salon Ms. O'Leary was visiting in a discrete manner. Sylv opted to bribe the deliveryman of her favorite restaurant to include a statue in a bag of food for her.
Ms. O'Leary suffered her mental break on the fourth day of exposure, instead opting to escape Seattle for a vacation somewhere... far away.
Aftermath
No significant aftermath; exposure on players minimal and unlinkable to any allegible felony activity.
Expenses
3,500 Nuyen bribe: sushi restaurant employee; 1800 nuyen, workspace rental

2020.09.25 19:45 trifletruffles Mattie Greene-killed in a bomb explosion in Ringgold, Georgia on May 19, 1960-Closed Case under the Civil Rights Division Emmett Till Act

Mattie Greene was the mother of six children when she was killed in a dynamite explosion that destroyed her home in Ringgold, Georgia on May 19, 1960. She was 32 years old at the time. Mattie's husband, Jethro, and 13 year old Jethro Jr., 6 year old David, 4 year old William, along with 17 month old Larry were also at home during the explosion and suffered minor injuries. Mattie's remaining two children were not home at the time as they were staying at their grandmother's. Authorities initially suspected Jethro of planting the bomb since he only suffered a bruised shoulder and investigations revealed that Mattie was involved in an extramarital affair which provided a motive. However, he was eventually cleared. Governor Ernest Vandiver offered a $500 reward for any information and despite the involvement of the FBI, no one was ever arrested for Mattie's murder.
Jethro served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a construction foreman. After the war ended, he worked as an auto mechanic and married Mattie who worked as a housekeeper. After clearing Jethro, authorities suspected that he and his family might have been targeted due to his possible involvement with the NAACP. However, it is unclear if he was a NAACP member since NAACP records regarding Ringgold and Catoosa County were not kept. A local sheriff, J.D. Stewart, suspected that many men were meeting at a local home under the pretense of being part of a singing group but these men were actually holding NAACP meetings. Jethro was noted to have been part of a singing group and was often featured on local Chattanooga radio thus lending some credence to Sheriff Stewart's suspicions. Nevertheless, the extent of Jethro's advocacy remains unclear and his 1994 obituary only lists an affiliation with the A. Randolph Institute which advocated for labor rights.
2009 FBI Investigation:
In April 2009, as part of efforts to solve civil rights-era homicide cases, the FBI in conjunction with the Department of Justice started an investigation of Mattie's murder under the Emmett Till Civil Rights Act. The FBI tried to review initial investigation files but they were all either destroyed in a flood during the 1970s or general document retention procedures. Thus, most of the information from the investigation comes from a redacted copy of the initial FBI file provided to the Southern Poverty Law Center. Since the files were lost or destroyed, the FBI began its current investigation by interviewing various relatives and children of Mattie. They also interviewed members of the community who were familiar with Lester Waters and W.E. Watters as they were rumored to have been involved in the explosion.
Mattie's [relationship and name redacted] was interviewed by the FBI. She stated that, at the time, she was told by Sheriff Stewart that Lester had confessed to the crime and that guilt had driven him crazy. Sheriff Stewart also told her that he transported Lester to a mental institution in Milledgeville, Georgia. Another of Mattie's [relationship and name redacted] similarly stated she was approached by a white woman years ago who said Lester was involved and it drove him crazy to the point where he had to be taken to a Milledgeville institution.
Based on these two recollections, the FBI conducted interviews with W.E. and Lester's family. Lester, W.E. and Sheriff Stewart are now deceased. Lester's [relationship and name redacted] stated that another possible suspect, [name redacted], was active in the Ku Klux Klan and that [name redacted] was good friends with Sheriff Stewart and Lester; they would often hold meetings at Lester's house which centered around a hatred of blacks and Jews. Accordingly, the FBI interviewed [name redacted] who denied they had anything to do with Mattie's murder. It was noted that [name redacted] worked for U.S. Pipe and Foundry on an I-75 construction project at the time. [Name redacted]'s place of employment is interesting because the original FBI file noted that the I-75 construction project involved demolition, namely the use of ammonium nitrate and electric dynamite caps. The initial investigation file noted that a piece of red and orange wire was found near Mattie's home; this wire was the type used in manufacturing electric dynamite caps. The 1960 investigation file is unclear regarding whether the FBI pursued this lead any further beyond calling the superintendent of U.S. Pipe and Foundry.
After interviewing [name redacted], the FBI tried to find out more about the type of work [name redacted] would have been involved in. Original employment records were destroyed but the FBI was able to get in touch with an operations manager who noted that in 1960, no dynamite would have been present at the work site due to the type of work being done. The FBI asked [name redacted] to take a polygraph test which they passed. As the FBI was not able to develop any new leads, the Department of Justice closed the case. Mattie's murder remains unsolved.
Discussion:
The closing memorandum discussed Jethro as a suspect after investigations showed that Mattie was involved in an extramarital affair. While an individual was identified, it is unclear if this individual was questioned. For some reason, Jethro's name was redacted in the memorandum when it discussed his injuries as noted by the statement "it seemed almost impossible, after viewing the scene, that XXX suffered as little injury as XXX" but based on the context, I was able to surmise the memorandum was discussing Jethro.

I came across the Department of Justice’s cold case initiative (Emmett Till Civil Rights Act) while reading an article discussing journalists’ efforts to install a billboard on an Arkansas highway aimed at solving the 1954 lynching of Isadore Banks. The Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice launched a website (linked above) to make information about the department’s investigation of cold cases from the Civil Rights Era more accessible to the public. As a result of the initiative, the Department of Justice has prosecuted and convicted Edgar Ray Killen for the 1964 murders of three civil rights workers in Philadelphia, Mississippi (the "Mississippi Burning" case); he is the eight defendant convicted. The Department has also been able to charge and convict perpetrators of the 1963 Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama and secured a life sentence for James Ford Seale for the kidnapping and murder of two teenagers in Franklin County, Mississippi in 1964.
Unfortunately, many cases which were submitted to the Department of Justice remain unsolved due to the passage of time resulting in evidentiary and legal barriers. In each case that is not prosecutable, the Department of Justice wrote a closing memorandum explaining the investigative steps taken and the basis for their conclusion. To date, the Department of Justice has uploaded 115 closing memos. I hope to be able to post on all of the closed cases as I share in the belief with the Department of Justice that “these stories should be told [as] there is value in a public reckoning with the history of racial violence and the complicity of government officials.”

2020.09.25 17:36 StarTemple Warnings: Serious Questions for JWs Who Think they Want to Stay!

You MUST Ask Yourself Some Very Serious Questions Now!
Q: Do you think GB Pied Piper "obey the org no matter how crazy it will sound" is normal and balanced sanity even now?
WT quote (WT 11/15/2013, pg. 20, par. 17, #3):
“”Elders who are reading this article can draw some useful conclusions from the account we have just considered:…
[And sandwiched into the admonishment:]
(3) At that time, the lifesaving direction that we receive from Jehovah’s organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint. All of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.
WT Simplified Version
(3) At that time, the direction that you receive from Jehovah’s organization may seem strange or unusual. But all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether we agree with them or not, because obeying these instructions will save our lives.
Q: Do you want to blindly obey any insanity to come from WT in the future?
Q: Is there one shred of evidence the "Governing Body of JWs" (GB) is any "saner" than David Koresh, Jim Jones, or Marshall Applewhite?
The worst case scenario is ANYONE getting caught in the WT self-implosion end phase, will become stuck in a potentially very dangerous development.
Q: Do you want to take forth an "end of the world" "hailstone message" and become a global laughing stock with JWs?
WT quote (WT 07/15/2015, pg. 16, par. 9):
9 This will not be the time to preach the “good news of the Kingdom.” That time will have passed. The time for “the end” will have come! (Matthew 24:14) No doubt God’s people will proclaim a hard-hitting judgment message. This may well involve a declaration announcing that Satan’s wicked world is about to come to its complete end.
Q: Do you want to be sent with the JW Lemmings into a crazy "the end of the world" "final mission" and then to the "JW Bunkers" as GB safe houses which you can bet will NOT be safe at all, with the JW Lemmings?
WT quote (WT 07/15/2015, pg. 16, par. 7-8):
7 What will happen after the destruction of false religious organizations? It will be a time to reveal what is really in our heart. The majority of mankind will seek refuge in human organizations that are likened to “the rocks of the mountains.” (Revelation 6:15-17) Figuratively speaking, however, God’s people will flee to the refuge that Jehovah provides. In the first century, the interval was not a time for a mass conversion of Jews to Christianity. It was a time for action and obedience on the part of those who were already Christians. Similarly, we cannot expect that the future interruption in the great tribulation will result in an influx of new believers. Rather, it will be an opportunity for all true believers to prove their love for Jehovah and give their support to Christ’s brothers.—Matthew 25:34-40.
8 Although we do not fully understand all that will happen during that time of test, we can expect that it will involve some measure of sacrifice. In the first century, Christians had to leave behind their possessions and endure hardships in order to survive. (Mark 13:15-18) To remain faithful, will we be willing to experience material loss? Will we be ready to do whatever is required of us to prove our loyalty to Jehovah?
You may not have heard of the WT "bunker plan", but it is NOT good. And that above scenario is when it will go into action and that is part of the "obey as crazy as it may sound" setup.
Q: Are you willing to abandon your house and everything else to go to prison or worse with JWs?
And as you can see here:
The Watchtower October 2019
14 During the great tribulation, a change will take place regarding the brothers who take the lead on earth. At some point, all anointed ones who are still on earth will be gathered to heaven to share in the war of Armageddon. (Matt. 24:31; Rev. 2:26, 27) This means that the Governing Body will no longer be with us on earth. However, the great crowd will remain organized. Capable brothers from among the other sheep will take the lead. We will need to show our loyalty by supporting these brothers and by following their God-given direction. Our survival will depend on it!
The GB also has their own coming "disappearance" "covered" as well.
Q: Do you want to get trapped in the global WTBTS liquidation under a FAKE "end of the world" "self fulfilling prophecy" SMOKESCREEN?
Q: Do you really think YOUR SURVIVAL depends on the fleeing GB and imploding WTBTS corporation?
Imo, when they go to game day, WTBTS will become unstable, GB Pied Piper-like, and very very dangerous worldwide, for real. The cult is in its manic phase of insanity now building.
https://www.reddit.com/exjw/comments/itpupb/warning_the_wt_cult_manic_phase_has_begun/
THAT is why you should flee WT like you are fleeing the Titanic NOW. No joke.

There are [recent] JWs studying or some non-JW who knows one studying who may not have known just how crazy this thing has gotten since 2012. Most JWs remain oblivious as well. These are the questions WT is also asking you.
And this is how they have built up the fake prophecy hype since 2012, for this final date with fate coming up.
https://www.reddit.com/exjw/comments/iol6rk/an_alternative_exit_plan_theory_for_the_end_of/
These "little details" can slip by some people even in the xJW development, because they are slipped in every now and then very gradually, so as to try to stay low profile. But, these are all red flags, in fact the whole watchtower is painted RED now.
But altogether, now after 8 years of this cult manic phase maturing, like in the links above outline, now it is what it is: A WT GB Pied Piper setup for JW Lemming disaster bar nore.
I truly hope you will bail TODAY like you he exiting the Titanic while it is still in port. (Matt24:15) It is NOT safe!

2020.09.25 15:45 VG_Chat An Analysis of Ex-Atheists

So, you've probably had a run-in with an ex-atheist, or someone claiming to be, at some point. It could have been a troll coming on this sub, it could have been someone in exatheist, it could have been one of those apologists who claim to have been atheists at some point before "seeing the light." (Lee Strobel, CS Lewis) Obviously, the idea that someone would be an EXatheist is a bit of a scary thought, that they came to our (seemingly) logical lack-of-belief and then rejected it and began believing again. So I intend to analyze the different kinds of ex-atheists I've talked to and heard about. I probably had a skewed sample because I'm just speaking from memory here, so if you have anything to add, please do so.
There are a lot of different factors and questions when it comes to self-proclaimed ex-atheists. Were they religious before becoming atheist? What religion did they join after realizing they were no longer atheist? Were they EVER really atheists, or are they just misusing the word so it sounds like they know what they're talking about? I think these are the three main questions.
Type 1: Initially religious and came back to the same religion
If we're using the first two questions to answer the 3rd, I think it's safe to say that these people weren't atheists. They rejected the evidence that had been presented to them, then went back to believing it. There's a disconnect here. It seems like they wanted to leave their religion, or considered themselves "atheist" because they had the guts to party or something, but then realized the error of their ways. It's hard to take them seriously when they go straight back to believing. I've also found that these types have an extremely low understanding of what it's like to be a skeptic and parrot tired sayings that we've disproved long ago, instead of presenting original evidence. Best case, it's a personal experience that converts them back. Not the best evidence, but probably the most acceptable in this scenario.
To quote someone from exatheist, "I'm an agnostic at heart. I believe in God via personal experience, but I think it's impossible to prove his existence rationally and logically. That's why there's something of a leap into faith that you need to believe in him."
Here are a couple more quotes from people who are basically trolls. "Well I got brain washed by anti theist propaganda at first, but after doing some research, I came back to my old faith, Christianity. I still have doubts, I guess because I am naive I could say, but I usually get them off quickly." "it's random bro" as an answer for everything. Existence? Random. Life? Random. Subjective consciousness? Random." (Obviously, this last one is incorrect, we usually say "I don't know", hence my unwillingness to believe that they were an atheist.)
We also see that for most people, it was simply a short rebel phase. https://www.reddit.com/exatheist/comments/isbgin/how_long_where_you_guys_atheists/
A quick note on apologists who claim this, I am almost certain they weren't atheists. CS Lewis, for example, seemed to be a misotheist, but described himself as an atheist. To quote from https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/questionofgod/twolives/lewisbio.html: "Lewis turned bitter toward religion early in life, catalyzed by the apparent ineffectiveness of his prayers to prevent his mother's death when he was 10. His sense of betrayal by God was heightened when he was sent off to a boarding school that he hated, in part because he found the religious exercises that were required of him there dull and contrived." As for Lee Strobel, well, in the first few chapters of "The Case for Christ" he described himself as happy when he found evidence contrary to God, and I think most of us ex-christians can say we felt lost, so...yeah, I don't think he really understands how an skeptic/atheist thinks.
So in summary, they probably never had a good understanding of skepticism, and came back to their religion for emotional reasons. Also, these seem to be the most common, and tend to think they came back to religion via reason and logic: https://www.reddit.com/exatheist/comments/iteoq9/why_did_you_leave_atheism/.
Type 2: Initially religious and went to another religion
This type is quite a bit trickier. It's not as likely there was pressure from their family or an emotional connection with their deity. It's possible that a girl/boyfriend wanted them to do it, but it's quite a bit different. My guess here is that these were atheists. They didn't believe in a god, but only analyzed the aspects of one religion. It's also possible that leaving their religion left a void in their life. I think it's a lot more likely that this type was an atheist, rather than a troll trying to convince themselves they were, but didn't fully examine the evidence of their new religion.
In summary, it could go either way. It's possible they were never skeptics or atheists, it's possible they switched for personal / emotional reasons, and it's possible they didn't really examine the evidence.
Type 3: Initially religious but became deist / pantheist
When I asked a couple questions on exatheist (I don't have the post anymore, couldn't find it again for some reason), I got a decent amount of answers which amounted to "I was christian, but then I was atheist, but I feel like there's something greater, so I became a deist / pantheist."
This is the most likely, in my opinion, to have been a skeptical atheist like us at some point in their lives. While I personally began finding more wonder in the world once I stopped believing it was a puppet with a magic man in the sky pulling the strings, nature is undeniably beautiful. Sometimes, you just think "wow, that's amazing", and while I disagree with their conclusion, they aren't giving their god any specific attributes. Some of you will probably say that pantheism isn't really theism. I guess that's up for debate.
In summary, likely were atheists at some point, but were driven for philosophical and emotional reasons to have some belief in a higher power.
Type 4: Initially irreligious but became religious later
If someone was raised an atheist / nonreligious, that's certainly what they believed for a while, at least as kids. My guess would be that these people never had their atheism justified to them and were never exposed to religion. When they entered the world at a later date, they were easily convinced by the faulty arguments thrown at them from all sides, and became religious because they wanted a community, or something along those lines.
In summary, they were technically atheists, but had never really considered religion, or made an argument for or against. This led to lack of understanding, and therefore they were convinced easily.
So, I guess that's about it. What do you think? If I got anything wrong, let me know, and I'll edit it. Thanks!

2020.09.25 14:36 VisibleConfusion69 Open Letter to Steve Huffman and the Board of Directors of Reddit, Inc- If you believe in standing up to hate and supporting black lives, you need to act

Open Letter to Steve Huffman and the Board of Directors of Reddit, Inc – If you believe in standing up to hate and supporting black lives, you need to act
Dear Steve,
On June 1, you shared a letter on Reddit’s blog “Remember the Human – Black Lives Matter”. In this letter, you claim “as Snoos, we do not tolerate hate, racism, and violence, and while we have work to do to fight these on our platform, our values are clear.”
As of today, neither you nor any other Reddit admins have shared this letter anywhere on reddit.com. However, the response to this message was swift on Twitter, where you were rightfully labeled as hypocritical based on your long and well-recorded history of defending racism and white supremacy on this site.
Among the many responses was this message from former CEO of Reddit, Ellen Pao.
I am obligated to call you out: You should have shut down the_donald instead of amplifying it and its hate, racism, and violence. So much of what is happening now lies at your feet. You don't get to say BLM when reddit nurtures and monetizes white supremacy and hate all day long
Many others shared links and screenshots of your past statements saying “Open racism and slurs are fine to post on Reddit”.
The problem of Reddit’s leadership supporting and providing a platform for racist users and hateful communities has long been an issue. Nearly six years ago, dozens of subreddits signed the original open letter to the Reddit admins calling for action. While the Reddit admins acknowledged the letter and said it was a high priority to address this issue, extremely little has been done in the intervening years.
On June 5, you shared this update on /Announcements, Upcoming changes to our content policy, our board, and where we’re going from here. In the post, you stated that there is a need for continued adjustments of Reddit’s content policy to address racism and that this remains a priority. These continued statements that you hear us, that this is a priority, or that you are working on it are not enough. It has been five years since your return as CEO and this still remains Reddit’s most glaring problem.
Steve, if you and Reddit genuinely care about the values of standing up to racism and hate, then you need to back it up with real action. As moderators on this website who have dedicated countless hours to keeping this site running, we call on Reddit to take the following steps:
At /AgainstHateSubreddits, we have laid out the many failures of Steve time and again to stand up to white supremacy on this site time and time and time again.
With a website with the impact of Reddit on the broader conversations being held in communities around the world, this website needs real leadership and real action.
We hope that Reddit will not just share empty platitudes — but will take a meaningful stand against hate, and take these recommendations to heart.
This letter is co-signed by more than 200 300 350 430 550 650 800 communities representing well over 200 hundreds of millions of subscribers:

2020.09.25 13:17 House_of_Suns /r/QOTSA Official Band of the Week 21: ALL THEM WITCHES

Let me ask you a question. If you haven’t listened to Kyuss, are you even a QotSA fan?
I suppose it is possible. Some people can be Peter Gabriel fans without being Genesis fans, or Ozzy Osbourne fans without being Black Sabbath fans, or Audioslave fans without being fans of Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine. And I am pretty sure that there are Foo Fighters fans out there who are not fans of Nirvana -- probably because Foo Fighters are a way better band than Nirvana.
Yeah, I said it. Come at me.
But QotSA without Kyuss? I can’t see it. Maybe I am biased because I just love the low desert sound. Heavy riffs, lots of fuzz ,and earthquake-inducing bass are my jam. That’s why I love Self-Titled so much and why I feel 18 A.D. is chronically underappreciated as a song, and it is an absolute crime that they don’t play it live.
I know I am not alone in this. Kyuss were a genre defining band that created what we now call Stoner Rock. Bands like Valley of the Sun, King Buffalo, Truckfighters, Stonerror, Sleep, Clutch, Mother Engine, Mondo Generator, Duel, and Fu Manchu all continue to write and perform Stoner Rock today. If you haven’t taken a dive into this scene, I totally envy the fact that you get to experience this music for the first time.
Today we are going to check out a great Stoner Rock band that just dropped a new album a few weeks ago. They have more fuzz than a five day backwoods fishing trip. They have bigger jams than Smucker’s, Welch’s, and Kraft combined. They will make your one-hitter hit a home run. You are gonna want to roll down the windows of your low riding caddy and drive all night through the desert.
Yep, you are in for a treat. This week’s band is ALL THEM WITCHES.
About Them
You are familiar with the Hero’s journey, right? That is the literary trope where our protagonists leave their comfortable little world, are mentored through a series of increasing challenges, find themselves at a low point, overcome obstacles, and return home greater and wiser than before?
As with every story of heroes, our group of adventurers from Nashville Tennessee went on a truly epic journey. Drummer Robby Staebler had just arrived in Nashville from Portland, Oregon and was looking for some buds to start a band. He had rolled up at his new home in the back of a moving van, because his mom had decided that he was just not good enough to ride up front. His dad was conspicuously absent. After meeting a sketchy male role model with a Smashmouth-esque chinstrap beard, he was forced by this would-be academic to enslave a small animal. He then ran away from home to engage in a series of escalating gladiatorial fights for money.
Wait. Shit. That is the plot of Pokemon Emerald, not the story of All Them Witches. Damn free emulators. Such a massive time sink.
Mudkip for the win. You are damn right I’m bringing back that meme.
Where was I? I kinda got distracted there. Oh yeah. Robby Staebler was looking for a band. He met guitarist Ben McLeod in a bar (remember when we could meet people in bars?) and then met aspiring drama student Charles Michael Parks Jr. when he took a job at “a corporate hippie store”. Parks Jr. turned those theatre aspirations into being a great frontman and bass player. The band rounded out their membership with Allan Van Cleave, a friend of Staebler, on keys. All Them Witches took the inspiration for their name from the set-prop book entitled All of Them Witches in the 1968 Roman Polanski Spawn-of-Satan movie Rosemary’s Baby.
Let’s get something else out of the way: Yes, I said Nashville Tennesee. The Buckle of the Bible Belt. The Protestant Vatican. The Athens of the South. The Hot Chicken Capital. Yes, the self-proclaimed Music City is perennially associated with Country music, Gospel music and, to a lesser extent, contemporary Christian Rock. There is a Jazz scene. There are active Barbershop groups. The city is the home of the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Hee Haw was shot there. It is a city that, until a few decades ago, still had strong ties to the Confederacy.
How the hell did a Stoner Rock band start there?
Quickly, that’s how.
The band were officially formed in February of 2012 (remember when that year was supposed to be the end of the world? C’mon, Mayans, if you really meant 2020 why didn’t you just say 2020?) and released their first album, Our Mother Electricity, on December 6th, 2012. Being from Nashville, the album was of course released on the German heavy psych label Elektrohasch Schallplatten. So just so we’re clear: Stoner Rock was born in the California Desert and then adopted by a band from Tennessee and released on a German label. I just have one question: Where the fuck is Carmen Sandiego?
To be fair, All Them Witches characterized their debut sound as being ‘psychedelta rock’...which kinda sounds like a knock off version of an X-Man. The album is full of heavy jams. Listeners can expect to hear the influence of the blues mixed with deep fuzz and highly compressed vocals. Until it Unwinds is over eight minutes of rolling swagger that will have you thinking about 50 Million Year Trip. Heavy/Like a Witch has some definite Stone Temple Pilots vibes and is a great opener. The true standout on the album is The Urn, a dark and twisted fable that is really the antithesis of everything one associates with music in the Bible Belt. The album was a declaration of war on everything cheery and pleasant to be found in the Music City, and a bold statement from a band finding its feet.
The band were not entirely happy with the production on Our Mother Electricity. In order to assert themselves, they went ultra low-tech. The released the Extra Pleasant EP in July of 2013. It was recorded on a 4-track cassette tape using only two microphones. Production-wise, it is a step back - but when you listen to it on headphones, you can appreciate the raw talent. It is a weird low-fi follow up and almost like listening to a debut rather than the first album. Listening to this EP is like hearing a Pink Floyd cover band’s first original songs that have been mashed up with Clutch and recorded on an iPhone 4. Even with those limitations, tracks like Sludger will stay with you and are worth your time.
While their first two releases had some modest success, All Them Witches really did not get widespread acclaim until the release of their second full album, Lightning at the Door, in late 2013. Every band that has ever released anything on Bandcamp wants to experience the kind of underground word-of-mouth sensation that this album generated. The album is part-concept, part-thematic and has narrative threads that tie it together (e.g. the two tracks The Marriage of Coyote Woman and The Death of Coyote Woman - clearly, not a happy ending for the titular character). If you loved Songs for the Deaf and Rated R, then this is the album that you are going to want to start with as an introduction to the band. It has some amazing tracks - Funeral for a Great Drunken Bird and When God Comes Back are great on their own - but it is best experienced as a complete album. Do yourself a favor: Find a great set of headphones and listen to it front to back. You’ll thank me.
How do you follow up a concept album that gives you unforeseen popularity and access to a broader audience? Do you, say, create a dark follow-up to it, and find the title for that album in a lyric from a hidden track?
Who the fuck would make a weird choice like that?
All Them Witches took a different route and decided to instead channel their inner Beck. The Effervescent EP came out in June of 2014. There are only two songs, each clocking in at about 25 minutes long. Side A is Effervescent and Side B is Tnecsevreffe. The EP is a Rorschach blot of instrumental music in multiple movements that channels incredible musicality and allows you to superimpose your own meaning on it. It is like listening to Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin have a baby, if that baby was raised listening to coyotes howl and instrumental Kyuss tracks all mashed together on one continuous loop. Fans of the German band Mother Engine will hear definite parallels. The weird thing about Effervescent is its length: it is hard to think of it as an EP, because it is 50 minutes of music. But it has only two tracks, so it can’t really be an album...can it?
Yes, before you start in on me, I know about Sleep’s Dopesmoker. That 2003 one-song album may also have influenced our boys from the Hee Haw city.
So after playing around with longer and more intricate multiple-movement songs, it is no surprise that All Them Witches dropped a 57 minute ‘EP’ in 2015. A Sweet Release hit the airwaves on April 20. Yep, 4/20. No, that was not a coincidence. No, I’m not going to explain that to you. If you gotta ask, you’ll never know. Yes, if anyone doubted at all that this band was a Stoner Rock band, fuck all y’all, the release date is proof. Tracks on the EP range in length from almost 2 and a half minutes to over 24 minutes. It is a spacey, laid-back jam that is at times hypnotic and far-reaching, and equally urgent and immersive.
I’m not saying that you need to be high to appreciate this EP. I’m just saying that listening to Interstate Bleach Party and Howdy Hoodee Slank in the right…mood ...can make you see the color Octarine.
Lightning at the Door and Effervescent cemented All Them Witches as true underground masters of Stoner Rock. 2015’s Dying Surfer Meets His Maker saw them broaden their musical scope and refine their sound. The album (yes, it is an album this time) leans heavily into the Blues with layers of grunge and psychedelia and celtic strings and even harmonicas. (Side note: the last time I heard harmonicas used in Stoner Rock was never. So good on them. I will say this: the hook brings you back.) All these influences were mixed in one big bowl and smoked out the top of a giant bong for full effect. It is at the same time a more technical and more mellow album. Stand out tracks on the album are the hard hitting Dirt Preachers and El Centro and This is Where it Falls Apart.
All Them Witches found themselves touring the small club circuit and then playing bigger and bigger stages. They got invited to festivals like Bonnaroo and were greeted by enthusiastic fans (and clouds of fragrant haze). There is nothing like performing live to hone a band’s edge. By the time Sleeping Through the War dropped in 2017, the boys had been together, touring and recording, for five years. The album is tightly crafted by a tight band. There are even guest vocalists to add texture and harmony to the songs. Less mellow than its predecessor, the album roars right from the opening track - Bulls - through to the closing track, Guess I’ll Go Live On The Internet. 3-5-7 is probably one of the best Stoner Rock tracks you will come across. And when you recognize the tonal mirroring of Am I Going Up with Alabaster, you feel smarter than you actually are. Lots of albums have made me bang my head; very few have made me stop and recognize the musical structure that underpins the melody. That is Tool-level composition right there. Long story short: this is an album put out by a band in its prime and it does not disappoint.
If you remember what happened in English class, what follows the apotheosis for the main character is the falling action or denouement. All Them Witches had peaked with Sleeping Through the War and had nowhere to go but down. The 2018 Lost and Found EP was four (comparatively) short covers and remixes that seemed more like leftovers than an actual meal. Sure, leftovers can be tasty, but All Them Witches fans were used to getting new and better breakfasts, luncheons and dinners and instead got last Tuesday’s reheated bean burrito. Which is fine, if you dig burritos, but it is still not as good as a nice, juicy steak.
Goddam, is anyone else craving a meal? Why is it so smoky in here, and why do I want to eat burritos and Doritos?
Hehe. Dorito. Burrito.
Fuck. I need to focus. Moving on.
Any fan of the band could tell that something was up, and that Lost and Found was at best a B-Side. It soon became evident that something really was up. Keyboardist (and part-time violinist) Allan Van Cleave was out of the band. This left a gigantic Ray Manzarek-esque hole in the band’s sound. The breakup was not a good one, and left some scars.
Van Cleave was replaced by Jonathan Draper, and the band released the album ATW in Sept of 2018. Sonically, the album is sound, but seems to lack the spark of greatness that was in everything prior to Lost and Found. The technical skills are there - Draper knows his way around a keyboard, and that is clearly evident on Fishbelly 86 Onions - but it kinda (IMHO) sounds more like an amazing All Them Witches cover album than an actual effort by the band. It is kinda like Bryan Cranston dressing up in a Walter White mask. It is super close to previous efforts but just not the same, somehow. 1st vs. 2nd is a jam and so is Diamond, and the album has an unrelenting energy, but it is just a bit off the mark.
The band must have felt something similar. Draper was turfed from the group just a month after ATW dropped. Instead of trying to recreate the four member sound that had anchored them since John Cusak and Amanda Peet’s landmark film, they decided to choose a new direction entirely.
When bands shuffle their lineup, it tends to be adding members (like our very own ancient monarchs) or replacing members. Very few bands successfully delete members. Well, OK, that band from Liverpool did successfully delete Stuart Sutcliffe from its lineup and they went on to do alright. Genesis made a successful transition from a 4-piece to a 3-piece when Peter Gabriel left. Oasis got 100% better when Liam Gallagher and his ego both quit. But losing an integral part of your sound - and the keyboards were central in so many songs - would be a tough transition. The band’s fanbase-not-so secretly worried that the lack of keyboardist would spell the end. Thankfully, we were wrong.
All Them Witches took that leap. Digging into their nomenclature and lore, they released a single as a three-piece band on Halloween of 2019. 1X1 is an angry, powerful Stoner Rock jam with a video that is an homage to Jesus Christ Pose. It is a Kyuss-meets-Tool-meets-Led Zeppelin-at-a-Black-Sabbath-concert song that made everyone simultaneously applaud and exhale.
They were back.
The new LP Nothing as the Ideal just dropped on September 4th, 2020. It is a leaner, meaner iteration of the band that seems to have lost no momentum. Everything resonates with power. Saturnine and Iron Jaw evokes Tony Iommi riffage. The Children of Coyote Women is a direct callback to the album Lightning at the Door. 41 is a thumping tune and Enemy of my Enemy is a relentless sonic attack. But most importantly, we get to see All Them Witches evolve as a band but hang on to the core of their sound.
You’re never going to hear this band on your local top 40 radio station. You might catch them on College radio, if the DJ is cool enough. Like most great music nowadays, you have to go looking to find it. But when you do find it, what an amazing experience it can be.
So now you have completed your Hero’s Journey (Twist! It turns out that YOU were the hero all along!) According to the trope, you are now older and wiser because you have ventured out of your comfortable little world.
Now prove me right, hero. Go listen and awaken your inner stoner. And bring me some goddamn Doritos. Cool Ranch for the win.

Josh has included All Them Witches on The Alligator Hour and is known to be a fan of the band.
A recent review of Nothing as the Ideal stated that Charles Michael Parks Jr.’s voice was “Fantastic...like a bassier Josh Homme”.
More importantly, All Them Witches are a Stoner Rock band...and Josh literally invented the genre. It is clear that while the band has grown and evolved and are taking themselves to new places, their music has been inspired by that downtuned, low desert Kyuss groove.

2020.09.25 12:01 HiMyNameIsNotRoger No, OKCupid hasn't (recently) been ruined by match.com. It's just continuously becoming more perfect.

Almost every day a post will show up in this channel, complaining that Okcupid has become so much worse compared to what it was 'in the old days', which function they took away or changed for the worst, rendering the whole thing unusable, and so on ad nauseam.
To make one thing clear: I totally agree on the part that OKCupid is now just a shadow of its former self, which was way more fun (but also not a total world of bliss).
But blaming match.com of ruining it falls way too short of what is going on.
First of all, if you want to blame someone, you can blame the founders of OKCupid, who sold it for 50 Million Dollars to match.com back in 2011. (Btw. 50 Mill is an awful lot of money, although it sounds kinda cheap compared to other buyouts..)
Secondly, what do you expect when a product is sold to the competition? I am actually surprised that they did not shut it down by now. Instead they did not change much in the beginning and now it seems they are on a path where finally it will just become another frontend for Tinder.
Third, and most important: It's all about the data. If you ever read the OKC blog of co-founder Christian Rudder, you will know that there is amazing things you can do with big data. And OKCupid was huge and detailed in this respect. And of course match.com has all those data now (maybe that was, why they acquired it in the first place), and they do also have all those data from their other dating sites/apps.
So if they i.e. increase subscription rates ridiculously high it is most likely not because they are crazy, but because they might exactly know what most people are willing to pay the most, thus maximizing their revenue.
Same goes for the features. There are two objectives here: Maximize time on the app/site so you can sell more ads, and/or make people pay for the subscription. At the same time the experience should be just good enough to not make you quit.
That is the sad truth.
If you think further, the same principle is behind any profit-seeking enterprise, but it gets really bad when there is no real competition.

2020.09.25 03:43 xylopolist The Rookie Report: Week 3 Starts & Sits

Welcome back to the Rookie Report! Hopefully your fantasy team came out of week 2 without a bunch of red letters next to players’ names. Last weekend was a bloodbath across the NFL as 4 players who may have been 1st round picks in your fantasy draft left the week with injuries (CMC, Saquon, Davante Adams & Julio Jones), along with a host of others. If your fantasy team didn’t suffer major injuries, you came out of the week in pretty good shape. Some of these injuries are going to open the door for rookies to step into bigger roles in the immediate future, and I’m here to help you sort through what to do with your rookies in week 3. Let’s dive in…
Editor's Note: This article was posted before the start of Thursday Night Football (Dolphins @ Jaguars).

Rookies to Start:

RB Jonathan Taylor, IND (Wk. 3: vs. NYJ): This one is a no-brainer. Taylor put the Colts’ offense on his back last Sunday against Minnesota, and he’s likely to do the same this week with Indy favored by double-digits. The Jets are much tougher against the run than they are against the pass, but volume alone should get Taylor where he needs to be. The Jets have allowed the 8th-most RB points per game this season. He’s a locked in RB1 this week with top-5 potential. He’ll likely be a chalk play for DFS cash games even at his $7,000 DraftKings price tag.
RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, KC (Wk. 3: @ BAL): This is not an ideal matchup for CEH. I mention him as a guy to start because you know the volume will be there. You likely drafted him in the first round, and there really aren’t any weeks to sit your first-round pick if he’s healthy. The Ravens allowed the 6th-fewest RB points per game a season ago, and have allowed THE fewest so far in 2020. They also ranked 4th in Football Outsiders’ run defense DVOA stat in 2019 (3rd so far in 2020). Edwards-Helaire is more of a contrarian DFS play this week, but you have to run him out there in season-long leagues. Just know to temper your expectations a little bit.
RB Josh Kelley, LAC (Wk. 3: vs. Car.): Week 3 has a chance to be Kelley’s best week all year. There is no better matchup for a running back than the Carolina Panthers, and everything shapes up for Kelley to see at least 15 carries. The Panthers’ run defense is bad by any metric. They ranked dead last in Football Outsiders’ run defense DVOA stat in 2019 and rank 29th so far in 2020. They also allowed the most RB fantasy points last year, and have allowed the most so far in 2020, and they’ve been surrendering rushing touchdowns at a ridiculous rate. Carolina has allowed 18 rushing touchdowns in their last 7 games dating back to last season, including 3 in each of the first two games this year. Kelley and Ekeler split the lead back role pretty evenly in week 2, and I didn’t see anything from Kelley that makes me think that will change this week. The rookie has a very solid floor in this one and has top-12 upside if he’s able to get in the end zone. He should probably be in your lineup if you have him.
RB James Robinson, JAX (Wk. 3: vs. Mia.): Everything is setting up for a breakout for Robinson on the national stage on Thursday night. The rookie has looked great through two weeks in average matchups. He’s the RB26 so far on the season in PPR scoring, and he’s looked even better than that ranking would suggest. He’ll face off with one of the worst run defenses in the league in week 3. The Dolphins have ranked in the bottom-4 in the league in run defense DVOA both last season and so far in 2020 and have given up 5.1 yards per carry on the ground so far this season. I expect Robinson to have a bit of a coming-out party on Thursday night and think a top-15 finish for the week is very possible.
WR CeeDee Lamb, DAL (Wk. 3: @ SEA): Lamb has wasted no time showing why the Cowboys were thrilled when he fell to them in the first round of the NFL draft. He’s clearly an integral part of the offense with 15 targets in the first two weeks. The Seahawks are 2-0, but they have a burnable secondary and have given up an insane 831 passing yards through two weeks. This is a spot to get all of the Cowboys’ pass-catchers into your lineup, especially after head coach Mike McCarthy told the media he has no intention to try and milk the clock to keep the ball away from Russell Wilson. This should be the most entertaining game of the week, and CeeDee Lamb should be a solid WR2 in it.
WR Laviska Shenault, JAX (Wk. 3: vs. Mia.): Along with James Robinson, Viska may also be in line for a big night. DJ Chark has been ruled out, leaving Shenault and Keelan Cole as the top 2 receivers. You may have 3 better options than Shenault on your team and not be able to find a place in your lineup for him, but he’s going to be a huge part of the game plan. The Jaguars will move him around enough to keep him away from Xavien Howard, and with Bryon Jones out that will put him in some mismatches in his favor. Shenault is an upside WR3 on Thursday night against a Miami secondary that let Josh Allen throw for 411 yards last week.

Borderline Rookies:

QB Joe Burrow, CIN (Wk. 3: @ PHI): Burrow had a very nice fantasy day last Thursday night against the Browns, but it could’ve been even better if he hadn’t been so hell-bent on forcing the ball to AJ Green all night. The Eagles’ secondary hasn’t been great so far this year ranking 27th in pass defense DVOA, but the best member of that secondary, Darius Slay, should be shadowing Green. If Burrow can avoid tunnel vision with Green again, there is a chance at a respectable day. I wouldn’t be considering Burrow in 1-QB leagues and his outlook this week isn’t as rosy as his matchup with the Browns was, but he should be a low-end QB2 option with a very solid floor.
RB Antonio Gibson, WAS (Wk. 3: @ CLE): Gibson seems to have wrestled the starting job away from Peyton Barber in Washington, and with so many running backs injured right now you may be forced to play him. Just be aware this isn’t a great matchup and he’ll still cede some work to Barber and JD McKissic. The Washington offense as a whole isn’t a high-scoring unit and has an implied total of just 18.5 points this week. The Browns did give up two short yardage scores to JK Dobbins in week one, but have still allowed the 7th-fewest RB points per game and rank 4th in run defense DVOA. Gibson’s volume makes him an enticing flex option, but he’s far from an automatic start and not someone I would be using in DFS lineups this week.
RB D’Andre Swift, DET (Wk. 3: @ ARI): What a difference a week makes for the Lions’ backfield usage. In week one with the Lions leading most of the day, Adrian Peterson touched the ball 17 times while Swift handled just 6 touches. In week 2 with the team trailing Green Bay for most of the game, Swift out-touched Peterson 10-to-7. The key for Swift is that he’s been heavily involved in the passing game with 8 receptions on 10 targets through 2 weeks. The Lions are a 5.5-point underdog this week, so the usage should slant in Swift’s direction again, and Arizona has allowed scores each of the last two weeks to backs with similar skill-sets to Swift (Jerick McKinnon & Antonio Gibson). Swift is in play as a PPR flex option in a game where Detroit has an implied total of 24.5.
WR Jerry Jeudy, DEN (Wk. 3: vs. TB): The injury to Courtland Sutton moves Jeudy up to the top of the Broncos’ WR depth chart, and thanks to how much time he spends in the slot he’ll be able to avoid Tampa’s top CB Carlton Davis for most of this game. Jeudy lines up in the slot on about two-thirds of his snaps. No team allowed more points to opposing wide receivers than Tampa a year ago, and they allowed DJ Moore and Robby Anderson to each top 100 yards last week. Jeudy should be in line to see 7+ targets this week and is very much in the WR3 conversation in all formats.
WR Michael Pittman Jr., IND (Wk. 3: vs. NYJ): Pittman stands to be the biggest beneficiary of Parris Campbell’s trip to the IR. His snap share rose from 53% in week 1 up to 92% in week 2 with Campbell going down on his first touch of the game. Pittman should continue to be a full-time player at least until Campbell returns. This game figures to be a blowout where Indy will lean on Jonathan Taylor and the run game, but Pittman was targeted 6 times in a game that went that way last week. The Colts have an implied total of 27 points, and dating back to the start of last season, 66% of the offensive TDs the Jets have allowed have been through the air. At 6’4”, Pittman figures to be a factor in the red zone. If he gets 6+ targets in this one, he’ll have a great chance at finishing among the top-40 WRs and should outproduce his $4,000 price tag in DraftKings.

Rookies to Sit:

QB Justin Herbert, LAC (Wk. 3: vs. Car.): I think it’s very likely that Herbert has a better real game than fantasy game this week. As I laid out with Josh Kelley above, Carolina has been absolutely shredded on the ground since the start of last season, especially in the red zone. I’d expect a lot of Austin Ekeler and Josh Kelley in this game. The Chargers are a 6.5-point favorite in this one and Christian McCaffrey, the engine of the Panthers’ offense, is sidelined. It feels like the most likely outcome is that the Chargers get out in front and stay there. I’d probably view Herbert as no more than a low-end QB2 this week due to limited passing volume.
RB Zack Moss, BUF (Wk. 3: vs. LAR): In a typical week with so many top running backs out, I’d be telling you to consider a guy like Moss as a flex option. He’s seeing plenty of red zone usage on a surprisingly potent Bills offense that has an implied total of 25 points this week. Unfortunately, he’s also dealing with a toe injury that has him not practicing yet as of Thursday. I think even if Moss plays he’ll be less effective than usual. The Rams are not a run defense to be afraid of, but I’d lean against starting Moss this week even if he is able to suit up. He’ll probably need to find the end zone to return any value.
RB JK Dobbins, BAL (Wk. 3: vs. KC): I fell for the trap on Dobbins a little bit after his week 1 breakout game. I already believed in his talent coming into the season, but week 1 made me believe he’ll get enough usage to be start-able in fantasy. Week 2 threw a bit of a wet blanket on that. The snap share wasn’t drastically different from week 1 to 2, but the touches were. Dobbins handled 7 carries in week 1 including 2 carries from the 2-yard line that he cashed in for scores, but in week 2 he touched the ball just 3 times. He managed to avoid a complete dud of a week by breaking off a 44-yard run to set up kneel downs at the end of the game. Mark Ingram & Gus Edwards combined for 4 red zone carries to Dobbins’ zero in week 2. The Ravens have one of the highest implied totals of the week at 28.5, but if you play Dobbins you’re counting on him getting in the end zone. I’d avoid starting him this week unless you’re in a tough spot due to injuries. He could be a reasonable fall-back flex option if you’re waiting on a player like Davante Adams for Sunday night or Sammy Watkins Monday, but Tre’Quan Smith and Mecole Hardman are guys that are probably available in your leagues that I would prefer in those situations.
RB Cam Akers, LAR (Wk. 3: @ BUF): Akers seems like to a long-shot to play this week, and I’d expect that if he does suit up he’ll be mainly there as insurance in case something happens to Darrell Henderson. I’d expect Henderson to handle the bulk of the work. The Bills aren’t an impenetrable run defense, but they aren’t one to target either, allowing the 12th fewest RB points per game so far this year (14th-fewest last year).
WRs Henry Ruggs & Bryan Edwards, LV (Wk. 3: @ NE): Ruggs and Edwards failed to do much last Monday in a game where the Raiders offense dominated possession, and this week they’ll face a Patriots’ secondary that is among the best in the league. Don’t be fooled by what the Seahawks did to them last week. Derek Carr continued to effectively lead his ‘death by a thousand paper cuts’ offense, dinking-and-dunking to Darren Waller and his running backs, and handing the ball to Josh Jacobs. The Patriots biggest personnel losses due to COVID opt-outs and players changing teams last offseason were in the defensive front 7. That’s the part of the defense that I’d expect the Raiders to attack. If Josh Jacobs sits, things get a little more interesting (he was held out of practice Thursday), but neither Ruggs nor Edwards would be more than a desperation flex play. I’d prefer Ruggs to Edwards this week if I had to choose one.
WR Justin Jefferson, MIN (Wk. 3: vs. Ten.): Jefferson has been on the field quite a bit in the first two weeks of the season, but the Vikings’ passing game has been a low-volume attack that runs through Adam Thielen. A third of all of Minnesota’s targets have gone to Thielen while Jefferson has been targeted just 6 times at an average depth of 8.8 yards downfield. Offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak talked about wanting to do a better job of getting the ball in his hands this week, but at that same presser said they need to run the football more. The Vikings already rank 31st in the league in pass attempts DESPITE playing from behind on 79 of their 96 offensive snaps so far this year…and Kubiak wants to run more. The matchup isn’t terrible for Jefferson this week on paper. On any snaps in the slot he should be lining up against 7th-round rookie corner Chris Jackson (PFF grade of just 27.2 through two weeks), but the Minnesota passing game is fundamentally broken right now. I wouldn’t look at Jefferson as anything other than a low-priced DFS dart throw in a limited slate tournament.
WR Chase Claypool, PIT (Wk. 3: vs. Hou.): Claypool’s final stat line in week 2 was impressive, finishing with 17.8 PPR points, but almost all of it came on one long TD catch. Outside of an 84-yard score, he had just 2 catches for 4 yards and played a total of just 24 snaps. It’s clear the Steelers are trying to get him involved and are drawing up a couple of shot plays for him each week, but his limited playing time makes him a risky weekly option. Houston has been a bottom-10 pass defense in terms of DVOA since the start of last season and gave up 12 pass plays of 40+ yards in 2019 (T-7th most in the league) but they haven’t given one up yet in 2020. Claypool is best left to DFS tournaments this week. The weekly floor is going to be below 5 PPR points until he moves up in the depth chart.
WR Van Jefferson, LAR (Wk. 3: @ BUF): Jefferson split the Rams’ WR3 snaps almost evenly with Josh Reynolds in week 1, but in week 2 he was out-snapped 42-to-26. That didn’t stop him from outproducing Reynolds with a 4-45 line on 5 targets (Reynolds went 2-33 on 2). Some of that target volume was undoubtedly the result of Robert Woods facing off with Darius Slay (Woods was targeted just 5 times), and although Woods gets another tough matchup this week in Tre’Davious White, it’ll be tough to rely on Jefferson unless he fully takes over the WR3 role. Jefferson doesn’t have a picnic of a matchup himself facing off with Levi Wallace, who was Pro Football Focus’s highest graded rookie cornerback a year ago. Cooper Kupp and Tyler Higbee are the Rams’ pass-catchers to target this week.
WR Brandon Aiyuk, SF (Wk. 3: @ NYG): Aiyuk’s debut was mostly inauspicious. He played 72% of the team’s snaps but was targeted just 3 times and finished with 2 catches for 21 yards. The offense will look a bit different this week with Nick Mullens under center and the combo of Jerick McKinnon and Jeffrey Wilson Jr. splitting the backfield duties. George Kittle could be out again as well. I’d look for the Niners to have a conservative game plan, but it’s hard to know exactly what that will look like. I’d probably avoid any 49ers for your lineups this week aside from Kittle (if he plays), Jordan Reed (if Kittle doesn’t play), and the two running backs I mentioned. You can’t trust Aiyuk to have a useful fantasy day based on what we saw last week.
WR Gabriel Davis, BUF (Wk. 3: vs. LAR): Davis is playing more snaps than you would expect for a number 4 wide receiver, but it isn’t translating to targets yet. Josh Allen has thrown the ball 81 times for 729 yards and 6 scores through two weeks, but Davis has seen just 3 of those targets and turned them into 3-22-1. The matchup this week should involve Jalen Ramsey following Stefon Diggs all over the field, so it could result in a little bit more volume for everyone else, but it would take a pretty sizable bump in volume to make Davis anything more than a TD dart throw. He remains a guy worth stashing in dynasty leagues though.
WR John Hightower, PHI (Wk. 3: vs. Cin.): With the news that Jalen Reagor has a torn ligament in his thumb Wednesday, Hightower is once again worth mentioning this week. He played 40% of the snaps in week 1 with everyone healthy, but that was with both Reagor and DeSean Jackson being limited to little more than half of the offensive snaps each. Week 2 saw Jackson and Reagor both function as closer to full-time players and the rest of the receiver group fighting for scraps. With Reagor sidelined, I expect to still see a lot of Jackson, and aside from him a mix of JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Greg Ward & Hightower. With the Bengals likely to be without Geno Atkins & Mike Daniels at DT, look for Philly to play a lot of 2-TE sets and run the ball a ton. They’ll be eager to take a bit of the load off of Carson Wentz given how he’s played the first two weeks. For Hightower to return value this week, he’ll probably have to catch a deep ball or two, but his average target depth in week 1 was just 8 yards. I’d avoid him even as a bargain basement DFS play.
WR Quintez Cephus, DET (Wk. 3: @ ARI): Kenny Golladay practiced in full on Wednesday and should be good to go for this weekend’s tilt with the Cardinals. Cephus has been on the field more than 70% of the Lions’ snaps with Golladay out the first two weeks, but that number is going to drop drastically this week assuming Kenny G returns. Cephus has lined up in the slot on just 9 snaps. Danny Amendola will continue to serve as the team’s slot receiver with Golladay and Marvin Jones on the outside. Quintez will likely only see a handful of snaps and should be left out of any fantasy lineups this week.
TE Harrison Bryant, CLE (Wk. 3: vs. Was.): Bryant was on the field for more than 50% of the Browns’ offensive snaps last week and gets to face a Washington team that has allowed the 8th-most tight end points per game so far, but he just isn’t seeing the ball come his way enough to be useful. He’ll do just enough to be annoying to people starting Austin Hooper. The Browns’ offense is too run-heavy right now to be targeting either tight end for fantasy.
TE Cole Kmet, CHI (Wk. 3: @ ATL): I’m sure you already know better on this one, but I wanted to make sure you know to not get cute just because the Falcons couldn’t defend Dalton Schultz last Sunday. Kmet is still the Bears #3 tight end, and he should be nowhere near your fantasy lineups.

Deep League Sleepers, Stashes, & Cheap DFS Options:

RB JaMycal Hasty, SF (Wk. 3: @ NYG): Don’t throw Hasty into your lineups for week 3, but he’s an interesting guy to possibly scoop up in dynasty leagues with the injuries to Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman. Hasty is likely to be promoted from the practice squad for this game, and I’d expect him to see at least a few touches. If he manages to impress with those touches he could ascend the depth chart quickly and possibly have a useful week or two in this very running back-friendly offense. He’s a shifty back that can be more dynamic than Jeff Wilson. He’s a player to monitor in deep dynasty leagues if he gets the call-up.
WR Tee Higgins, CIN (Wk. 3: @ PHI): Higgins saw a huge jump in playing time in week 2 with Auden Tate a surprising healthy scratch. I’d expect that to be the case again this week, and he’ll get the most favorable matchup of the receivers. Tyler Boyd will get Nickell Robey-Coleman in the slot, and AJ Green is likely to face off with Darius Slay. Higgins meanwhile will tangle with Avante Maddox. Higgins posted 3-35 on 6 targets last week, and so long as Burrow doesn’t have tunnel vision for AJ Green again, I expect the rookie to exceed that easily. He costs just $3,900 on DraftKings.
WR KJ Hamler, DEN (Wk. 3: vs. TB): With the news that Courtland Sutton is out for the season, Hamler suddenly finds himself to be a much bigger part of Denver’s plans. He was an explosive playmaker in college, and new QB Jeff Driskel has shown flashes of Ryan Fitzpatrick’s YOLO style back when he was in Detroit. This week isn’t an ideal matchup for Hamler since he will likely see a lot of ascending star CB Carlton Davis (Jerry Jeudy has worked mostly from the slot and is likely to avoid Davis), but Driskel targeted Hamler 7 times last week after coming on in relief of Lock. Driskel averaged 8.2 intended yards per attempt last year, which would’ve put him in the top half of all QBs if he played enough to qualify, and he was at 12.4 intended yards per attempt on Sunday. Hamler is a bit of a shoot the moon option this week as a minimum-priced WR on DraftKings. He also shouldn’t be on your league’s waiver wire in 12-team leagues.
WR Darnell Mooney, CHI (Wk. 3: @ ATL): Mooney’s impressive week 1 performance did in fact lead to more playing time in week 2. The Bears were comfortable enough with Mooney that they made Ted Ginn a healthy scratch for week 2 and let Mooney play 60% of the offensive snaps. Atlanta is an inviting matchup for receivers. Both Atlanta games this season have turned into shootouts with over 700 yards of combined passing offense in each. I don’t know that Chicago has the firepower to make that 3 in a row, but I like Mooney’s chances at a surprisingly solid week. I’d expect him to have a season-high in catches and yards, and he’s a sneaky flex option for deep leagues and costs the minimum in DraftKings.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Hopefully it helps you make some of your tougher lineup decisions involving rookies. It’ll be especially important this week to keep an eye on the injury report. There are a lot of statuses still up in the air as of this writing. Make sure you’re vigilant enough that you don’t start any inactive players, and make sure that whoever you put in your flex spot is the player in your lineup who plays the latest game of the week at his position. You don’t want to stuck without a fallback if a player is a last minute scratch like Tyrod Tylor or James White (condolences to him and his family this week). Feel free to hit me up on Twitter if you have any questions or want to yell at me about anything written above (@Shawn_Foss). As always: Good luck, trust your gut, and have fun. It’s just a game. 2020.09.25 00:51 throwafffuckingway Can i give up on my church and move to dif healthier church without being called backslider?

Ive been a christian since i was a kid, despite that i have a very dysfuntional family and my parents who just never cared for me and my sisters.
Im 22 now and ive been reading the bible since the beginning of this month started in luke and now im colossians. I always thought being a christian means bearing all the bad things happen to me and overcoming it with the grace of Jesus and steady being positive but life have been really tough to me. Last year i only went to church for at least 10 times, i had alot of anxiety attack because of traumatic life events that cause of my church, i was ban in playing drums because i prioritize my study over practice and my excuse wasnt enough because some student cant do it but i cant.
Its really tough to the point where i started having suicidal thoughts and cutting myself. I talked to my pastor about this but all he told me is that he will pray for me.. i know it doesnt sound so bad but i was depress and i was hoping for an encouraging words but i was given the most dull advice in my whole life. I was broken into peices.
Things hasnt been the same in the church but this year ive been comming back to the Lord, my college friend helped me and we started a one on one bible study that really boosted my faith, and my relationship to Jesus. But whenever i go to church all i think about was how badly i was treated in church. I miss being able to close my eyes and praise the Lord without having the thought of being judge.
Im really really trying to keep up with my church demands, but they tighter and higher every sunday. When the quaratine was loosen up in my town , the church re open but because alot of transpo stoll doesnt operate alot of my churchmate have a hard time going to chuch, instead of making a little late (normal church time is 8:30am-12:00) they made it more early, to 8:00am, so alot of young adult who lives a bit far from my church had to be up at 4am to get a transpo but sometimes they cant even get until noon so theyd be late, and instead of being understading my church held a meeting to all the adult youth member that they have to wake up early.
One of the sing leader even had to walk just to go to the church and i know it seems like its such a good thing to sacrifice alot but i feel like its so unecessary inconvient to do things like that special to people my age who's already a bread winner to each others family because of low income parents and other sad issues this generation is facing.
They also doesnt allow any youth fellowship because they said we were noisy and used the covid excused but my pastor preach about how dying is a gain to the Lord. They even made the youth live service to once a month because they said nobody is watching. He's sending a mix signal tbh.
They set a rule but those rules doesnt apply to people who have "higher faith" and tbh i feel so tired being a christian now more than ever. I feel like im in a cult and i have to follow everything even tho it just doesnt make sense anymore. Things was completly dif, they treat us nicely and kindly now my pastors wife check my devotions every sunday and literallg check it with red pen with matching date like im still in sunday school.
When i go to church i have more anxiety than when i have to speak out in public, i get more depress when i go to church, i feel more emotiobally tired when i see them and i promise you, ive been praying everday to the Lord to teach me to love my pastor and pastors wife again but can i love them from afar? And not cost my mental health?
Im so tired of always putting others first.. why cant i put myself first? Why does christians treat eachother so badly? Why old christians cant love the youth christians? Im sorry if my english isnt good, this isnt my first langauage, and im sorry if my username annoys you, i cant make a new account because then id have to build up karma :( sorry.
